How many ways are there to explore an idea? In Language Supported Integrative Studio 2, students fact-find individually and in groups to investigate and document a topic. Research often requires investigation through multiple means including fieldwork, experimentation, failure, and creative problem solving. Over fifteen weeks, you will engage with a wide variety of studio-based research methods – both digital and analog. You will pursue one overarching self-generated research question in parallel to the seminar-based research methods you will be learning in Integrative Seminar 2. At various times in the semester, the two classes share concepts and assignments, bringing together reading, writing and making in a manner that is essential to the creative research of professional artists and designers. Research methodologies will reflect the different schools at Parsons: Constructed Environments, Fashion, Systems and Strategies, and Visual Culture. Those sections with the designation [LS] are Language Supported and were designed for students placing into NELP 1700 or NELP 1800. This Language Support (LS) course is specially designed for students for whom English is a second language. LS courses have the same content as non-LS courses as well as extra attention to vocabulary, cultural references, and support for reading and writing. Students will engage with the materials in a supportive and dynamic learning environment as they become acclimated to American educational context, culture, and expectations. Parsons LS faculty possess training specific to both the content area and language support focus.
